What Does a Chamber of Commerce Do?

What Is a Chamber of Commerce, Really?

We get this question more often than you’d think — and we get it! Chambers of Commerce are often misunderstood. So let’s clear a few things up:

  • We’re not a government agency.
We’re an independent, member-supported nonprofit that exists to support and promote local businesses — large and small.

  • We don’t get funding from the town.
Our programs, events, and services are made possible by member dues, sponsorships, and community support.

  • We’re not political.
We advocate for business in ways that are inclusive, collaborative, and community-centered. We’re not affiliated with any political party — and we’re not part of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce (yes, it’s confusing!).

  • We’re local. We’re yours.
Everything we do — from sidewalk sales to business mixers, ribbon cuttings to resource guides — is about making Greenwich a better place to live, work, and thrive.
