McArdle’s, Greenwich’s own premier florist and garden center, began its 102nd growing season with the fifth generation working alongside his father and grandfather. James “Ben” McArdle, IV will be serving customers throughout the summer.
According to Ben’s dad, James McArdle, III, “We are very proud to serve the Greenwich community in our 102 year. To have my son Ben here, working with my father and I – and our fantastic staff – continues a tradition that’s important to us as a family, and we hope is important to the Greenwich community.”
According to some reports, approximately 30 percent of all family-owned businesses survive into the second generation, and 12 percent will be viable into the third generation. Only 3 percent of all family businesses operate at the fourth generation and less than 1 percent into the fifth generation.
James McArdle is quick to point out that McArdle’s isn’t just a family business, it is a community business. “Being a family business from Greenwich means we care deeply about this community. For more than 100 years we have been supporting the community and we hope to do so for 100 more years. Over the next few months you will be hearing about our support of the Greenwich Land Trust and the Breast Cancer Alliance among others. I hope that is as much our legacy as anything. “
The McArdle Family has been keeping the Green in Greenwich for 102 years. Located on one acre in downtown Greenwich, McArdle’s includes an award winning flower shop and garden center. They have been selected as Best of the Gold Coast six times in the past seven years. McArdle’s offers customers the highest quality products paired with outstanding customer service. As a family owned, fifth generation Greenwich business, McArdle’s believes strongly in giving back to the community and regularly participates in charity and educational events.
