    Name: Make Waves Day
    Date: June 20, 2019
    Time: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM EDT
    Event Description:
Mark your calendar for the third annual “Make Waves Day” on Thursday, June 20, with area restaurants and retailers. This annual event is a community fundraising initiative with Swim Across America Fairfield County to help raise funds for groundbreaking cancer gene therapy research. Participating retailers and restaurants will contribute a portion of their sales from June 20 to Swim Across America Fairfield County. Many donate up to 10-to-20 percent, but each participant is free to decide which portion of the day’s sales are donated and can specify hours of the promotion. The funds raised go to directly to Swim Across America Fairfield County and its local beneficiary, Stamford-based Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy (ACGT), the nation’s only nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to funding cancer gene therapy research. Greenwich businesses will be supported with a banner across Greenwich Avenue from June 10 to 24 to promote the event and the Swim Across America Fairfield County open water swim, taking place on June 22. More than 300 swimmers and 100 volunteers participate in the open water swim and all "make waves” in the fight against cancer! “We are very excited about this year’s ‘Make Waves Day’ and what it means for the Greenwich community,” said Nancy Carr, co-chair of Swim Across America and the mastermind behind this event. “We created the ‘Make Waves Day’ a few years ago for those of us that don’t swim. I wasn’t a swimmer, but I sadly know too many whose lives have been touched by cancer and I wanted to do something to help raise money to fight this disease. Inviting area retailers and restaurants to participate in this fun day was an easy way to get more involved. The event has grown over the past several years to include retailers and restaurants throughout Greenwich, Stamford, Westport and New Canaan.” “It’s exciting to see the enthusiasm and participation for what we are doing grow,” said Michele Graham, the swim’s other co-chair and parent of a young adult cancer survivor. “Everyone wants to get involved and the ‘Make Waves Day’ and it is great to see the whole community helping."
