Name: Greenwich Art Society 101 Annual Members Exhibition
    Date: March 9, 2018 - April 13, 2018
    Event Description:
The Greenwich Art Society proudly presents its 101st Annual Members Exhibition, a major exhibition comprised of artwork by Greenwich Art Society members. The show takes place at The Bendheim Gallery on the 2nd floor at Greenwich Art Center from March 9, 2018 thru April 13, 2018. There will be a public reception on Friday, March 16 from 6:30pm-8pm with a special VIP walk and talk tour with the juror on Thursday, March 22 from 5:30-7:00. The Art Center / Bendheim Gallery is located at 299 Greenwich Ave., Greenwich, CT 06830. The Greenwich Art Society 101st Annual Members Exhibition will exhibit a diverse range of works by its members and will be juried by a curator from one of the major NYC museums. The Annual Members Exhibition is highly competitive, drawing fine artists from the entire tristate region. Many of the Society’s artists/members are locally and regionally recognized for their work and have shown in galleries and art fairs in NYC and beyond. Juror: Randall R. Griffey is Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Prior to the Metropolitan, Griffey held curatorial positions at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (1999 – 2008) and the Mead Art Museum, Amherst College (2008 – 2012). Among his publications are the journal article “Marsden Hartley’s Aryanism: Eugenics in a Finnish-Yankee Sauna,” in American Art (Smithsonian Institution) in 2008 and the essay “Reconsidering ‘The Soil’: The Stieglitz Circle, Regionalism, and Cultural Eugenics in the 1920s,” in the Brooklyn Museum’s exhibition Youth and Beauty: Art of the American Twenties in 2011. Both of these publications were recognized with awards from the Association of Art Museum Curators. At the Metropolitan, Griffey has organized Reimagining Modernism:1900 – 1950, a comprehensive reinterpretation of the museum’s collections of European and American modern painting, sculpture, photography, works on paper, and design. He also co-curated Thomas Hart Benton’s America Today Mural Rediscovered and, most recently, Marsden Hartley’s Maine. Anna Patalano, president of G.A.S. says: “Please join us for both the public reception and VIP tour. The show’s award-winning artists will attend for a meet and greet with the VIP’s and juror.” All works can be purchased by contacting the Greenwich Art Society at 203-629-1533 between 9:30 am and 12:30 pm, Monday through Friday, or by emailing greenwichartsociety@verizon.net Greenwich Art Society • 299 Greenwich Ave. Greenwich, CT 06830
