Discussion on Refugees with Author Melissa Fleming
Members of the Greenwich community and surrounding towns are invited to attend an evening of cocktails and conversation followed by a discussion with Melissa Fleming, Head of Communications & Chief Spokesperson for The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and author of A Hope More Powerful than the Sea: One Refugee’s Incredible Story of Love, Loss, and Survival. Fleming will discuss the extraordinary story from her book of one Syrian girl’s journey of survival. A conversation on the remarkable resilience of refugee children will follow, led by Marcia Biggs, special correspondent for “PBS NewsHour.” The event, presented by the Greenwich Leadership Council of Save the Children and sponsored by First Republic Bank, will benefit the Fairfield-based global humanitarian organization’s Centennial Campaign/Return Refugee Children to Learning, which helps to restore learning opportunities for refugee children within 30 days of displacement. Organizations partnering with Save the Children for this event include Building One Community, Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants, Junior League of Greenwich, YWCA Greenwich and media partner Serendipity. Tickets can be purchased online at SavetheChildren.org/Greenwich-event.
