Advocacy Meeting Recap with Director of Parking Services, Rita Azrelyant

Results from our Survey of Business attitudes have identified that Parking in Greenwich is a concern for our members. The Greenwich Chamber invited Rita Azrelyant to speak to our members and the Greenwich Community as part of our Government and Community Affairs Advocacy series.

Rita Azrelyant presented to chamber members this June and covered the overall function of the Parking Services Department and how the department functions in the maintenance and enforcement of the parking regulations in the Town of Greenwich. Over the past year there has been research done to compare Greenwich’s parking rates with those of neighboring communities. Greenwich is in the middle of pricing compared to other cities and towns in southern Fairfield County even though we are the closest to New York City. There are no current plans to change the fees, however in order to improve efficiency and limit expense a new parking permit vendor was retained and residents are highly encourages to renew their parking permits online this year.

Other highlights include reorganizing the parking lot at the Town Hall garage which provided additional spaces for permit holders. The Island Beach and Horseneck parking lots were also reorganized which provided more clarity as to hourly vs. visitor spots and increased another 50 spaces for permit holders.

Parking signs were updated in several lots. The signs include explanation about long-term vs. short-term parking and provides pay-by-phone options and multi-space parking meters were installed  to alleviate the need to have change or parking cards.
